I server possono essere configurati per mostrare il contenuto di una directory che non dispone di un file di indice per il rendering. Il risultato di solito è meno che visivamente spettacolare:
Possiamo prendere il controllo di questo noi stessi replicando questa funzionalità con PHP.
- Crea un file indice (che
.index.phpinizia con il punto, in realtà) che legga i file nella directory e li restituisca in una tabella - Crea un
.htaccessfile che serva quel file come indice - Avere il caricamento del file di indice in CSS e altre risorse anch'esse precedute da un punto (nascosto)
Il seguente PHP legge la directory dei file e visualizza una tabella con stile del loro nome, tipo di file e dimensione del file. Applica anche un nome di classe in cui applicare le icone per i diversi tipi di file principali (vedi CSS).

Le risorse caricate in quel file di indice sono lo script sortable.js del sorter della tabella di primo livello e un file .style.css. (Ricorda, anteporre un punto ai file rende invisibile nella maggior parte dei sistemi operativi e inoltre non verrà visualizzato nella directory dei file (buono)). Ecco quel CSS:

RICORDA: il file .zip potrebbe sembrare vuoto, ma non lo è. I file sono tutti preceduti da un punto. Visualizzali in un editor di file che mostra i file "nascosti".
